Began transportation career at age 14, washing trucks for family courier business (Connecticut Delivery Service, Inc.) and assumed the management of that company at the age of 19.
Served in the naval reserves as a Communications Technician in the Naval Security Group from 1964 through 1970, holding a Top Secret clearance for this period of time.
Together with a partner, founded Airfreight Services, Inc. (AFS), an air freight motor carrier, in 1977. AFS was one the first air freight motor carriers to utilize computers in its day to day operations In 1984, designed one of the first comprehensive software systems for the airfreight motor carrier industry, called “AIRTRAC”.
Served with the Air & Expedited Motor Carriers Association as a Director for over twenty years and as its President from 1987 through 1991. Served on a variety of air freight industry committees formed to establish standards of communication and performance for the non-integrated air freight door-to-door product. In March of 2008, was presented with the AEMCA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Founded Northeast Express Transportation, a distribution company, in 1991 and purchased sole ownership of Airfreight Services in 1994, at which time the three entities were consolidated into the operating group presently known as NEXT. Sales for the group doubled in the subsequent three year period.
Has been the President and a Director of the Connecticut Messenger & Courier Association from 1993 to date. Was a Director of the Connecticut Motor Transport Association as well as a member of the MTAC Budget & Finance Committee.
In March of 2006, was appointed by Governor Rell to the Connecticut Public Transportation Commission (CPTC) and reappointed again in 2009.
In 2008 was appointed a Director for Citizens Restoring Congamond, a civic organization dedicated to boating safety on and improving the water quality of Lake Congamond.
In 2009 was elected to the Connecticut Leadership Council of the National Federation of Independent Business.
In January of 2010 was elected Chairman of the Connecticut Public Transportation Commission.
In 2011 was elected Chairman of the Connecticut NFIB Leadership Council.
In March of 2012 was appointed to the Regulatory Fairness Board of the U.S. Small Business Administration.
